You can create a wildlife area quickly using wildflower plants (some seeds may take a long time to establish, or germinate). Planted in groups of between 5 –10 per m2, native wildflowers will create a burst of colour and life. You can use them in gardens, allotments, community green space - or plant up some tubs and containers on your balcony or patio. A box of wildflower plants can make an unusual green gift too!
You can plant some wildflower species into lawns or grassy areas, but they need space to get started. Cut grass as short as possible and take out an area of grass around the plants, checking back any weeds or rough grass while the plant is establishing.
Our plants are grown in peat-free compost in 7cm pots and have well established root growth when you receive them. They normally flower in their first season after planting, dropping more seed or developing runners to colonise naturally.
Sometimes we run out of plants. We can usually offer another similar species, but we will always ask you first. Other species, not listed here can be seasonally available in small quantities, please ask when ordering.
To get the best from your wildflower plants
If you order during the winter, check your ground isn't too hard and don't plant out in frosty conditions. In summer, keep plants well watered and don't plant out in drought. Plants arrive in waterproof boxes and need to be unpacked quickly and watered. If you aren't ready to plant out, keep them in their pots and water when the soil starts to feel dry.
